It’s no secret that most Americans eat an unhealthy diet, rich in ultra-processed foods. Grocery stores are packed with ultra-processed options for the first morning meal.

As a physician, I see patients every day who are trying to make healthy choices. Yet they’re unknowingly sabotaging their health with “nutritious” breakfast options marketed by the food industry.

Flavored Yogurt Parfaits

  • Why they’re problematic: Contain up to 28g of sugar per serving
  • What I recommend instead: Plain Greek yogurt with fresh berries and a sprinkle of nuts. If you eat a plant-based diet, choose one of the many non-dairy and vegan yogurts made from coconut milk, almond milk, or cashew milk.
