Agree! Despite the mantra to "eat more protein," the majority of the population isn't at risk of protein deficiency. As you mentioned, it's certain sub-populations and those with medical conditions that affect how much they consume. If you exercise, you need more than someone who's sedentary, but some bodybuilders are overdoing it.
