I’ll often scan the shelves at the grocery out of curiosity and get a major wake up call when I see how much added sugar is hiding in common foods.
Take yogurt or pasta sauce for example — you’d think they would be healthy options for your grocery cart but many brands pack in surprising amounts of sugar. But I saw pasta sauce with as much as 12 grams of sugar per half-cup serving. For pasta sauce?
I found a French brand of yogurt with 17 grams of sugar per serving. That’s more than 4 teaspoons of the white crystals. And don’t even get me started on the sugar in Starbuck’s beverages!
Sugar Is a Sneaky Substance
You may think you’re not eating much sugar if you take your coffee black and avoid the cereal aisle.But food companies have been quietly packing processed foods with insane amounts of the sweet stuff.
And people are buying into it. According to Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, the average American consumes around 17 teaspoons of the sweet stuff daily.
Even seemingly “innocent” foods like ketchup and bread can be loaded with it. Food companies know we love…
