“I’m done with this nonsense.”

The words ricocheted off the pristine hospital walls every morning at 6 AM, as predictable as the sunrise.

Dr. Harrison (let’s call him that) would storm into the operating room suite, his surgical cap slightly askew, muttering under his breath about another day of “cutting people open.”

I watched.

I learned.

I wondered.

Expectations vs. Reality

As a wide-eyed medical student rotating through surgery, I expected to see the stereotypical surgeon: confident, perhaps a bit arrogant, skilled and in love with the craft.

Instead, I got Dr. Harrison — the man who hated surgery but performed it with the precision of a master artist.
