How a 50¢ Pantry Staple Transformed My Morning Coffee
The Surprising Science Behind Smoother, Gentler Coffee
From Coffee Snob to Budget Brew
Confession: I used to be a coffee snob.
I’m not a snob about most things, but coffee was my tiny rebellion against mediocrity.
I was the gal who’d spend $18 on a single bag of beans that were “ethically sourced from a small farm in Guatemala where the beans are hand-picked by monks at sunrise.”
Then life happened. Prices started rising enough to make me second guess my coffee snobbery.
When I went back through my purchases, I was struck by how much money I was spending on my coffee habit alone.
It’s shocking how fast you can go through a bag of coffee. Ever noticed that? I steep my own cold brew, which requires a lot of coffee ground coffee. And it can strain your bank account if you’re buying high-end coffee.
On the plus side, I wasn’t buying frou-frou drinks at Starbucks to the tune of $8.00 each.
To right the ship, I made a daring leap and looked at the grocery store brands, the common, “no frill” ones.
As an experiment, I even ventured away from Arabica beans (the highest quality)…
