Using an incentive spirometer can improve lung capacity and lung function. That's the device they give you after surgery to open up your airways. You can buy one for home use. Also, taking a deep breath and holding it for a few seconds, helps expand your lungs. You have to be careful though with astma, as doing this can sometimes narrow your airways and trigger asthma symptoms.
